The Victron SmartSolar MPPT RS 450V solar charge controllers are Victron's solution for systems with large series connected PV arrays charging 48 V DC battery banks. This product is perfect for large off-grid, and grid connected battery systems.
In Victron's MPPT model names, for example MPPT 450/100, the first number is the maximum PV open circuit voltage. The second number, 100, is the maximum charge current.
Available in a 5.76kW and 11.52kW model, features include a wide 80-450 VDC operating solar voltage input, independent tracking inputs, full connectivity, isolated PV connections, display screen, fully programmable battery charging parameters and active cooling. The new metal case design and fully covered electrical connections improve the safety and modernise the presentation in line with the latest suite of Victron products.
The Victron SmartSolar MPPT Charge Controller gathers energy from your solar panels, and stores it in your batteries. Using the latest, fastest technology, SmartSolar maximises this energy-harvest, driving it intelligently to achieve full charge in the shortest possible time. SmartSolar maintains battery health, extending its life.
The SmartSolar charge controller will even recharge a severely depleted battery. It can operate with a battery voltage as low as 0 Volts, provided the cells are not permanently sulphated or otherwise damaged.

With multiple MPPT trackers, you can optimise your solar panel design for maximum performance for your specific location.
Each PV trackers can handle a Max. PV operational input current of 18 A, and each tracker can be connected to a max PV array of 7,200 Wp.
For the 450/100-Tr (2 trackers), This means a total of 14,400 Wp can be connected, or e.g. 36 x 400 Wp panels.
The 450/200-Tr has 4 trackers, meaning that a total of 28,800 Wp, or 28.8 kWp can be connected.
There is a wide 80-450 VDC operating solar voltage input, independent tracking inputs, full connectivity, isolated PV connections, display screen, fully programmable battery charging parameters and active cooling. The new metal case design and fully covered electrical connections improve the safety and modernise the presentation in line with the latest suite of Victron products.
The unit has fan-assisted cooling, see picture below.
The charge settings are fully programmable and can be set up for different battery chemistries, like lead-acid, lithium and more.
The SmartSolar RS charge controller can be remotely controlled and configured over Bluetooth via the VictronConnect App. This allows device set-up, management, and at-a-glance information, such as battery voltage and current, PV voltage and current, historical data and trends.
The SmartSolar RS charge controller is equipped with VE.Can bus ports. This allows for communication with additional SmartSolar RS & VE.Can MPPT units. The additional units are simply “daisy chained” to each other with an RJ45 cable. When connected to each other, all individual charge controllers, will synchronise their charge stages. They can also send their data, via the same cable, for monitoring to a GX device (such as the Cerbo GX).
If the GX device is connected to the internet, the Victron Remote Management Portal (VRM) provides access to the full power of your SmartSolar RS charge controllers.
The SmartSolar RS charge controller is equipped with a display on the front panel. The display reads battery volts, charge current and voltages from both array’s individually including instantaneous and total figures and unit status including any possible error codes.
The SmartSolar RS charge controller is equipped with a programmable relay and options for remote temperature and voltage sensing. The remote input can accept the Victron smallBMS and other types of BMS with allow-to-charge signals.
